A Follow Up on My Playboy Story

There’s been a lot of things said about the book that I wrote, My Playboy Story, especially since Crystal’s memoir released. I understand that putting my story out there publicly gives everyone the opportunity to read, judge, and comment on my experiences. I accept that. But for the first time in years, I feel the need to comment on it. So, here today, I have a bit of a follow up on My Playboy Story for you.

First, I feel that I should say it was something I did for myself. It was my first venture out into the world of journalism and writing. It was the first thing I wrote solely because I felt compelled to write my story. It wasn’t about money. It wasn’t about revealing secrets. I wanted to paint this slice-of-life narrative about someone, myself, being uprooted into this world that was so foreign to them/me. I think it painted a realistic portrayal of what that world was like during my time there. And that was its sole point. How many people could be in my shoes there? It felt like narrative that was interesting to tell.

After it came out, I was heavily isolated from that world. Despite expecting that to some degree, my mental health took a bit of a decline. But thank God for Marston. He got it. Marston and his mom supported me discussing my story and believed it was accurate to what that world was at that time. After the release of my book, there was a time when I lost hope, and he helped drag me out of that headspace by telling me how proud he was of me and how real he thought my book was. And I will always appreciate him for that.

Regarding my time at the mansion: Did I get caught up in the nonsense and drama? Yes. Did I allow my time at the mansion and the things that happened to affect my self-worth? Yes. But it made me who I am today. It was a defining element of my life, and I wanted to share my story. It was about me.

It baffles me how many people have strong opinions on me when they’ve never read anything else I’ve written or looked into any other aspect of what I do. Honestly, I’d love to ask what they would do in the situation I was in. How do you act when you’re in over your head in this world? Would you have visited the Playboy Mansion given the chance? How would you have reacted to that world? But I ask this knowing everyone is entitled to their own opinions as I am to mine. They are free to comment on my actions as I commented on the world of Playboy. Seeing all of the commentaries recently have inspired me to give this little follow up on My Playboy Story.

And the one comment I’ll make on this new book making waves out there is as follows, “It’s extremely ironic that someone who tried to threaten me into silence for speaking my truth would pick that title for her book.”
