A Journey to the Most Haunted Castles in Scotland: Edinburgh Castle and Culloden Battlefield

You probably already know that Scotland is known for its rich history, stunning landscapes, and lively music culture. But did you know that this country is known for its ghostly legends as well? Especially surrounding its numerous castles. For centuries, Scotland’s castles have been the center of many eerie stories and supernatural sightings. From haunted fortresses to ghostly figures, Scotland’s haunted castles are a must-visit for anyone interested in the paranormal. Here are just some of the most haunted castles in Scotland.

Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle is one of the most iconic landmarks in Scotland. But it’s also said to be one of the country’s most haunted places. This historic fortress, which was built in the 12th century, is perched on top of an extinct volcano in the heart of Edinburgh. Over the centuries, Edinburgh Castle has served as a royal residence, military stronghold, and prison. So it comes as no surprise that so many ghost legends are tied to it.

There are around seven ghosts who are believed to haunt this place, including the ghost of a dog. The most famous ghostly figure said to haunt Edinburgh Castle is that of a French soldier. He allegedly died during the Battle of Culloden in 1745. Visitors have reported seeing the ghost of the soldier walking around the castle’s halls. Others claimed that they saw him riding a horse on the surrounding hills.

Glamis Castle

Located in Angus, Scotland, Glamis Castle is considered to be the most haunted castle in Scotland. But that’s not all that this building is known for. This beautiful castle also has a rich history, and it was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth, the mother of the late Queen of England.

Glamis Castle is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young boy who froze to death sitting on a stone in front of the castle. The boy was known to be mischievous, and visitors say that he still has the habit of sticking out a foot to trip up any visitors. Another ghost that haunts this place is known as The Woman in White. Visitors have reported feeling a chill run down their spine when they see the ghostly figure of the woman. Some even claim they have heard her laughing through the castle’s halls.

Blair Castle

Blair Castle is located in the heart of the Scottish Highlands and has been the seat of the Atholl family for over 700 years. This historic castle has been the center of many eerie stories and ghostly sightings over the years.

One of the most famous ghost stories associated with Blair Castle is that of a young girl who died at the castle and is said to haunt its halls. Visitors have reported seeing the ghostly figure of the young girl wandering around and even have felt a spooky presence within the castle’s walls.

Another ghost said to haunt Blair Castle is that of a piper who disappeared within the building. Tourists have reported hearing the sound of ghostly pipes echoing through the castle’s passages, and some have even reported seeing the man wandering the castle’s ramparts.
