The enigmatic queen of ancient Egypt continues to captivate the imaginations of historians, archeologists, and your average history nerds. The whereabouts of Cleopatra’s Tomb has long been a subject of intrigue and fascination. Historical texts and accounts provide tantalizing clues, yet the exact location remains shrouded in mystery. As simple as it may sound to you at first, you have to consider how much effort has been put into finding it for hundreds of years. And yet, it still remains undiscovered. The only clue we actually have are some ancient sources that suggest that Cleopatra was buried alongside her lover, Mark Antony, after their tragic deaths.

The Quest for Discovery

Over the centuries, numerous expeditions and excavations have been launched in search of Cleopatra’s final resting place. From the sands of Egypt to the depths of the Mediterranean Sea, archeologists have tirelessly pursued any lead that might unveil the secrets of this ancient queen’s tomb. Seriously, just google it. You will see that new searches happen every couple of months. And for good reason! Finding it would be a treasure trove of historical and cultural significance.

Several locations have been theorized as potential sites for Cleopatra’s burial. The temple of Taposiris Magna near Alexandria has emerged as a significant contender, with ongoing excavations revealing intriguing artifacts and structures that might be linked to Cleopatra’s era. However, her remains aren’t one of them. But there might be a plausible explanation. Underwater explorations in the waters off Alexandria have sparked debates about whether her tomb might be submerged, lost to the tides of time. That would explain why not only her body has been lost, but also the body of her partner Mark.
