Fall-Winter Fashion Essentials for Travel: It’s All About the Layers

Whether you’re living your everyday life or you’re setting out on a new adventure, there’s one evergreen fashion tip that never fails to deliver during the fall and winter seasons: it’s all about the layers. This season, I’m transitioning back from Los Angeles, California to Richmond, Virginia… and surprise! Richmond has seasons! So, I’ve been putting together my essentials list for both my fall time at home as well as for my upcoming adventure working with Magellanic Penguins in Argentina. From Virginia to Patagonia, my tip for keeping warm and looking stylish is the same- wear lots of layers! From tees to mens utility shirts to cozy jackets and beyond, now is the time for cozy fashion. Thank goodness adidas has gifted me with some of my favorite fall-winter fashion essentials for travel, and not just for me- for the whole family!

In the cooler weather, you want to bundle up, but when you’re on the go, you’re likely to get warm quickly as you either trek long distances or go in and out of many buildings and transportation vehicles all with varying temperatures. That’s why layers are essential. They also help you pack less while you travel, as you can pack several shirts to wear with the same sweatshirt or jacket over many days.

So, here’s my go-to look for time with the family at home as well as for trekking the preserves of Argentina working with penguins in the chill fall-winter weather. First, I would start with a nice long-sleeved shirt (or short sleeved if the temperatures aren’t too chilly). I tend to get cold easily, so I grab the long-sleeved tees or fashionable tops with jeans or expedition pants (depending on how much activity I’m doing for the day and what that activity is). I’ll go for jeans for relaxing at home and expedition pants when I’m on-the-go working with wildlife. Then, a nice sweatshirt or light jacket is essential as the next step. This look, alone, is perfect for fieldwork or playing in the leaves on a semi-warm, semi-chilly day. I’m happy to say that adidas has some great men’s and women’s jackets. I fell in love with my Adicolor Corduroy Fleece Mix Jacket, and the Tiro 23 League Training Jacket is a great men’s jacket option. It traps in heat, allowing you to get nice and warm in cooler weather, yet it still unzips to allow for the cool breeze to get through when you’re getting too warm. For my look, I always add a headband or hat because my ears always wind up cold. And voila! A versatile look with stylish adidas swag for both transitional weather and travel.

Of course, as the weather drops, you need to add a warmer, more heavy-duty coat layer into your wardrobe. I got my Essentials Insulated Hooded Jacket from adidas that’s perfect for the changing fall weather, as it’s water resistant, extremely warm, and it’s easy to move in. Again, it’s versatile enough to be worn both while playing in the backyard and trekking through the countryside.

And, as I always say, it’s all about the details! My favorite part about putting together my fall-winter wardrobe has been matching the whole family together! You can get the Racer TR 23 Shoes for the whole family from the Racer TR 23 Kids to the Racer TR23 for Women and the Racer TR23 for Men to match our family look. Mixing and matching with the family is one of the most fun things to do as you put together your transitional pieces. And my adidas shoes are perfect for casual strolls with the family as well as trekking difficult terrain on my expeditions.

Stay tuned as I update you upon my return about my time working with Magellanic Penguins in South America. I’m excited to get my adidas gear out in action working with the wildlife.
