Fear Must be Faced

Fear may not be the most pleasant topic, but it is a highly important one.

Since I was little, I have always struggled with fear. I was terrified of just about everything, from the darkness to even simply interacting with my fellow man. Eventually, enough was enough. Fear kept me miserable, barring me from any kind of happiness, and the more I allowed it to have a strong voice inside my mind, the worse things got. Then, I figured out how to fight back.

Courage isn’t having a lack of fear, it is being absolutely terrified and still allowing yourself to act the way your mind wants you to. Every time I start to feel afraid, whether that means I’m doubting my capabilities or someone’s reactions to what I have to say, I ask myself one question. “What is worse, the thing I fear or the fear, itself?” Every time, it leads me just enough courage to face my fear and act in accordance to my own wishes.

It gets easier. Slowly, but you have to be consistent about facing your fears or it will get harder. Now, don’t get me wrong. Fear serves a very important function. It keeps you safe and stops you from jumping into pits that may contain vipers, but that is the reason it exists. It doesn’t exist to keep you from ever taking an action. So, listen to what it has to alert you to, and then, make a decision. You can’t allow yourself to be crippled by fear simply because you have it. Fear must be faced. Daily, and it must be conquered so that you can enjoy your best life.

Fear Is My Castle

Fear is my castle

The place I call home

I furnish it lavish

To keep from feeling alone

A villain sits patient

Each day on my throne

Each different and frightening

In sin they have grown

But this is my castle

The place I must fight

For this is my sanction

My base in the night

Beneath lies a smithy

With swords on the walls

Each night I forge new ones

That help me stand tall

Each blade is made pretty

With metal that’s strong

Courage made metal

Conviction my song

And as I face villain

aloft in my hand

The blade I forged pretty

The courage of man

I strike at my foe

And return to my bed

The courage now shattered

New villain found dead

As I dream soundly

New enemies stride in

And though I live scared

I’ll forge courage again

The Japanese Art of Kintsugi: Why Broken Things Are Worth Repairing With Gold

The idea behind kintsugi is quietly radical. When a piece of ceramic breaks, you do not throw it away and you do not disguise the damage. You glue it back together with lacquer, then trace the cracks in gold. The repaired object ends up more valuable than the original, not in spite of the damage…
