How Travel Regulations are Boding During the Rise of the Omicron Variant

Travel experts believe that most travelers will resume their adventures in the year 2022. The reason is that most people have stayed indoors for a long period of time, so the majority of the world is getting restless and wants to, well, get out. Think of it like a pendulum swing. We’re going from practically no travelers out and about to more people than normal adventuring. Because of this, unfortunately, the first few weeks of the year started with the rise of the Omicron variant. The good news is that the travel regulations are continuously updated to ensure everyone’s safety. To give you a better view, here are the latest travel regulations during the rise of Omicron. And you can always keep up-to-date with the latest information by checking in on the CDC’s website here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/variants/omicron-variant.html.

Latest Travel Regulations During the Rise of Omicron

1. Shorter Testing Windows

In the US, Biden’s administration requires travelers to take a COVID-19 test a day before they board their flights, regardless of their vaccination status. Aside from that, the US also requires incoming travelers to take a test up to three days before leaving (for vaccinated individuals) and one day before departure (for unvaccinated individuals).

2. Post-Arrival Testing

As mentioned, the travel regulations are continuously updated to ensure everyone’s safety. One of the latest travel regulations during the rise of Omicron is post-arrival testing. To be specific, this regulation requires travelers to get a second or third COVID-19 test three to five days upon arrival to their destination. This regulation is widely used in numerous countries with tough requirements to ensure that delayed onset of COVID-19 is caught before it spreads in their country.

3. Quarantine

Aside from testing programs, the US government also requires travelers to quarantine or self-isolate for at least seven days after arrival. This requirement is applied regardless of the results of your COVID-19 tests. If you don’t abide by this latest travel regulation during the rise of Omicron, you may face a hefty fine.

4. Banning Entry

Finally, the last travel regulation of the Biden administration is to close the doors to countries with high Omicron cases. As of today, the US has banned the entry of individuals from these countries, including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique, Botswana, Eswatini, Malawi, and Lesotho.

All in all, these are the latest travel regulations during the rise of the Omicron variant. As presented, these travel regulations will continuously be changed or updated, depending on the current situation in the US. And the requirements you will need to work with will vary depending on your country of origin or your destination. As a responsible traveler, you must abide by these regulations to ensure the safety of the people in your destination. If you think that these travel regulations are a bit strict, you can postpone your travel plans until the Omicron variant is under control. Regardless, if you are planning a trip, be sure to research your country of origin and destination to see the rules you must abide by today!
