King Neptune’s 3D Mini Golf Adds Way More Fun to a Favorite Hobby

Growing up in Virginia, mini golf became a time-honored tradition for me and my father. We loved going to play a good 18 holes of mini golf regularly all around the Richmond area. So, naturally, when I grew into a teenager and started dating, I would take my date (I only really dated my then- boyfriend, now- husband) to a variety of mini golf courses. So, when I found out about King Neptune’s 3D Mini Golf, it was a no-brainer for me to check it out.

Have you ever wanted to play mini golf in the dark…with a blacklight…and 3D glasses? I’m sure many of you have never thought about it. But now that I’ve said it, it sounds incredible, right? I’m here to tell you firsthand that it is something you must experience for yourself! I’m talking about King Neptune’s 3D Mini Golf in Virginia Beach, VA. This epic course of mini golf challenges your skills while allowing you to have a lot of fun in the process.

As a kid growing up in Virginia, this became a location I regularly visited. You head into a large, dark interior space where the walls are painted to look like an “under-the-sea” motif. With the blacklight and glow-in-the-dark paint, it already looks fascinating without the 3D glasses, but when you put the glasses on, it comes to life as the murals protrude out of the walls in all their 3D glory.

Mark Brownell took two weeks to build the location many years ago while two of his friends, who happen to be local artists, took about a month to paint the full interior.

The holes are exceptionally challenging at times; they’re not your average Par-3 mini golf holes, and that’s one of the more exciting elements of playing this course. The added challenge of the 3D glasses makes it all the more wild. It’s really an adventure you have to try for yourself.

As a former “art kid” and current art admirer, you can’t forget to pay attention to the carefully laid out brush strokes and artistic design found within this space. Specifically, there is a mural with a statue of Athena that has an octopus next to it, and I was staring at this for several minutes looking at the elaborate detail of the octopus tentacle and the Athena statue. So, there’s really something here for everyone- the art aficionados, kids, teens, and adults looking to reconnect with their inner child. This was a place I grew up going to and loving, and it did not disappoint me as I visited as an adult.
