Knight

Their once lived a knight

Both tried and true

Who rode through the night

Towards a fight overdue

He trudged through the rain

In the cold, despite pain

Resolute in pursuit

He must find the brute

As dawn breaks the dark

And owl gives to lark

The knight unsheathes his sword

Then repeats the oath he swore

“I swear these words be true

On my honor I’ll pursue

The beast that took your husband’s head

And deliver you his, in its stead”

He dismounts from his trusty steed

Weary feet find renewed speed

Torchlight flickers dancing the way

Fearless he strides into the cave

Deeper, tighter, darker, colder

Never been a knight was bolder

He who fights for woman’s favor

Staves the fear from his endeavor

Sir Edric didn’t turn yellow

When the ogre loosed a bellow

He raised his shield and readied his sword

As the ogre charged and roared

A ten foot beast with club raised high

His form so great it grazed cave sides

Bone spikes jutting from elbows and knees

This monster could kill a normal man with ease

A block with shield, a dodge to the side

A slash to its stomach made the ogre outcry

It slammed down its club with all its might

This crushed the shield arm, of Edric the knight

Now his turn for fury, he thrust out his sword

Impaling the ogre, both fell to the floor

The ogre still feisty, though close to death

Unleashed one blow, before last breath

The cave’s walls echoed the crack

Of the ogre’s ferocious attack

The knights legs, now paralyzed

Would bring somber tears to eyes

But he bit back the pain

And rode through the rain

Driven by pride

Knowing many would have died

As he reached the town’s gate

His body began to feel the weight

So he came up with a plan

And summoned a stable hand

The Hand delivered to a shack

A note and heavy, smelly sack

The widow quickly opened note

To read a scribbled simple quote

As promised

May it bring you solace

-Sir Edrick
