For years now, I have been trying to get the perfect photos in my custom Renaissance dress. My friend Alex made this dress for me for years ago before I attended the Ren Fair, and I love it. It is a replica of one of Danielle de Barbarac’s dresses from the movie Ever After. Well, after years of trying, Katarina Van Derham was gracious enough to shoot me in this beautiful dress and many others. The dress I’m referencing is the blue one in the header. See our Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo inspired shoot here below, and get inspired!
In case you, somehow, didn’t catch on, I’m a giant nerd. My weekends are generally filled with Dungeons & Dragons, fantastical stories, and a plethora of dorky events. Coming from a theatre background, I am also a sucker for dressing up. So, when the opportunity arises for me to get to play dress up and take period-inspired photos for VIVA GLAM Magazine, I always say yes! After all, the above photo had me feeling like a princess, while the photo below immediately reminded me of a painting that used to hang in my Grandma’s house.
But, alas, the real joy came when I was able to sport my custom Renaissance dress from Ever After. I felt like a complete princess sprawled out in my floral jewelry, fanning myself in an old-school fashion. The shimmering blue-green fabric of the dress really stole the show. I mean, I always look forward to wearing this dress annually for the Renaissance Fair, if for nothing else.
I hope this shoot is able to inspire you to step outside, commit to your perfect artistic vision, and go for it! This was just the first in a long line of vintage-themed photoshoots I did with Kat and VIVA GLAM Magazine, but as the first, this one definitely holds a special place in my heart. After fretting for years, wishing I could wear my gown for a shoot, it finally happened! And it was worth the wait!
