Scuba Diving in Kauai

I’ve gone scuba diving several places around the world now, and I’ve learned that each spot has its own personality and charm. It goes without saying, but one dive spot will have advantages and disadvantages over another dive spot. So, I always try to dive whenever the opportunity arises on my adventures. And I was extremely lucky to get to visit Seasport Divers while I was in Kauai, Hawaii! Seasport Divers offers the safest and most fun scuba diving experience in Kauai by paying attention to every detail of each unique dive.

Unlike the dense, cold waters of Los Angeles, where I was certified, Hawaii has nice diving conditions with warm water and good visibility. In fact, my dives with Seasport Divers offered the perfect circumstances to see and swim with large sea turtles. We swam by many turtles resting along the bottom of the ocean, and several swam by or along with us as we slowly floated on our way. That was the most unique and exciting thing about diving in Hawaii for me. I’ve never seen turtles as large as these before, let alone got to swim with them. My dive partner from Seaport made sure to ask about my preferences and what I’d like to see on my dive to help cater to my needs, so when I expressed interest in the turtles, he made sure that I got to see several of them.

Seasport Divers offers multiple daily boat dives or, if you get seasick like me, you can schedule a shore dive! Unlike some of the more challenging shore dives I’ve been a part of, the dive at Koloa Landing offered a ramp where you can slowly ease yourself into the water. The rocks along the entrance to the sea here provide a semi-narrow opening that allow you to be pulled gently and easily out into the water. I dove in July, and there were no harsh waters or rough waves that made the shore dive difficult. It was very relaxed and laid back which made it all the more fun. I felt safe with one of their workers as my dive buddy and well taken care of. But also I felt the freedom to explore and learn more about the Hawaiian water’s ecosystem. My partner pointed out many of the unique species of fish and wildlife that were native to the area. This dive site was voted one of the Best Shore Dives in the Pacific by Scuba Diving Magazine, and it’s filled with coral and a variety of fish. So, I’m sure you’ll have a great time!

We did two dives in the morning, and it was the perfect time to see the turtles, eels, octopi, and fish that stayed in the relatively shallow areas surrounding the shore.

Seasport Divers caters to certified divers, which is really nice, but also still teaches PADI classes for those looking to get certified in many different levels of Scuba. They offer seasonal trips to “The Forbidden Island” of Niihau, which is definitely something I will have to come back for. Seasport Divers is a PADI 5 Star IDC diving center with passionate instructors and guides who love what they do! All in all, you’re not just going diving, you’re signing up for a unique diving experience. Each dive is a different underwater adventure, so I encourage you to visit Seasport Divers on your trip to Kauai. And, if you’re coming to Hawaii and are not at least planning a day trip to Kauai, what are you thinking? This is the garden island! It’s lush, green, and has provided the backdrop for many notable films. You definitely want to see it for yourself for a day- if not longer. And be sure to dive while you’re in Kauai!
