Stay Connected: How to Stay in Touch While Traveling Internationally

I probably don’t have to tell you about the numerous exciting things associated with traveling. From exploring new cultures to trying out new and delicious foods — traveling as a whole is such a rewarding experience. But it can also be stressful, especially when it comes to staying connected with friends and family back home. While it’s important to unplug and enjoy your travels, it’s also important to stay in touch with loved ones. But it doesn’t have to be complicated. There are so many sweet and thoughtful ways to let your loved ones know that you are thinking about them and to stay connected while you’re traveling.

Send a Postcard

Let’s start off with a classic that a lot of us overlook. Sending a postcard is an old-fashioned way to stay in touch while traveling. It’s a personal and tangible way to show your loved ones that you’re thinking of them. You can find postcards at local shops or tourist attractions and send them from a local post office. But besides simply staying in touch, your friends and family will also have something special to keep forever. Postcards aren’t the fastest way to get in contact with someone, but they are much more thoughtful and memorable than an Instagram DM.

Record Personalized Videos

Another way to stay in touch is by recording personalized videos. You can record videos of your travels and send them to your loved ones, or record messages for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. This is a great way to make your loved ones feel like they’re right there with you. You don’t have to record something super long or elaborate. Just a quick 30 seconds video with a personal message will make the people you love feel a little extra special.

Get a Local SIM Card

One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to stay connected while traveling internationally is to get a local SIM card. By using a local SIM card, you can take advantage of local rates and avoid expensive roaming charges from your home carrier. You can purchase a local SIM card at the airport or at a local mobile phone shop. Before you travel, make sure your phone is unlocked and compatible with the local network.

Rent a Pocket Wi-Fi Device

If you need internet access while on the go, consider renting a pocket Wi-Fi device. These small devices allow you to connect to the internet anywhere, anytime, and often provide unlimited data plans. You can rent a pocket Wi-Fi device at the airport or online before you travel. That will make it easy for you to get around your new destination as well. You’ll even be able to share your location with your loved ones if they’re feeling super concerned about your safety.

Schedule FaceTime Calls

It’s such a blessing to live in the era of FaceTime calls. You won’t only have the chance to hear from your family and friends, but also see their faces. If you’re worried about time zone differences, scheduling FaceTime calls in advance can be a great way to stay connected. You can plan calls for a time that works for both you and your loved ones. All you need is your phone and a good internet connection, and you’ll feel like you’re right there with them.
