The Importance of Self-Care

Sometimes, we just need time to ourselves, away from the chaos of the world. During these times, things could be emotionally hard on us, we could be going through something terrible or unsettling, or we could just be overwhelmed with the work or stressors of life. Regardless, in times of high stress, overwhelming emotions, or uneasiness, it’s more than a little important to take time for us. Self-care becomes key! In fact, it’s crucial, if at all possible, to take a few minutes each day to sit outside and/or get happy in your comfortable, safe space, and do some type of warming, healing meditation. I’ve found that this is one of the greatest ways I can energetically protect myself in times of crisis, and it’s now my go-to option for self-care. Here’s my advice on how you can take care of yourself at any time, especially during difficult times.

Set boundaries

We’ve spoken a lot about setting boundaries for yourself. For those of us out there who are people-pleasers, this can actually be a pretty hard thing to do. It’s important to understand that your time is just as valuable as anyone else’s. If you have plans already or just want to take time for yourself, don’t feel bad politely saying no if people would like you to hang out with them or if they’d like a favor from you. Setting boundaries means putting what you need first, defining what that means (it could be as simple as putting aside time for yourself each day for an hour or one day a week for a few hours), and then sticking to that decision (unless an emergency or something crazy comes up). For myself recently, as I’ve really been in need of some time to heal, this looks like putting aside time each day for an hour to meditate and heal and also putting aside a few hours on Friday to spend time by the pool.

Take time to heal

When you’re not feeling your best, just setting aside a bit of time for mindfulness can make the world of a difference. Add a bit of healing meditation in with that, and suddenly, you can feel like a new person. I’ll admit that I have been going through a pretty rough time in my life right now. I need healing more than anything else at the moment so I can move forward with my life. Because of this, I’ve been taking the time to move forward slowly, practice mindfulness a bit each day, and then follow through with this healing meditation. With a little time, care, and focus on healing my energies, I’m slowly becoming a new person one day at a time.

Energetically protect yourself

I personally feel that sometimes, when others are upset with us or if negativities build, we can accidentally have negative energy directed at us. Being an empath, I find myself very susceptible to this. I find that conducting a meditation exercise in which I energetically protect myself is necessary when this occurs. I simply get comfortable and begin my normal mediation routine. However, as I get to the focus level or headspace I’d like to conduct the meditation in, I simply begin seeing myself bring in a great white light as I inhale. From there, as I exhale, I see this white light leaving my body and forming an egg of protection around me, similar to our REBAL we use when we begin our meditations. This white light builds and fortifies itself with each exhale, as I see it get stronger and more vibrant. I state to myself that no energies can get through unless they are here with my best interest in mind. And I sit in my happy bubble for a time until I come back out of my meditation.

Meditation as a form of self-care is not only popular right now, but I find it crucial in taking the best care of myself. If you’re not feeling your best, think about setting boundaries to give you that much-deserved ‘me’ time, healing yourself with regular meditation exercises, and protecting yourself energetically. After making these changes in my life, I can honestly say that I feel like an all-new person!

While in college, Malorie studied body movement with the DAH Theatre in Belgrade, Serbia, voice in Herefordshire, England with Frankie Armstrong, and the business of theatre in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Malorie moved from the East Coast to Los Angeles after receiving her BFA in Theatre Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University. Upon arriving in LA, Malorie participated in the Miss California USA 2011 Pageant where she won the “Friend’s Choice” Award (by popular vote) and received a beautiful award for it.

While living on the West Coast, Malorie accumulated over 40 acting credits working on a variety of television shows, web series, and indie films, such as the sci-fi movie “Dracano,” the Biography Channel show “My Haunted House,” the tv pilot “Model Citizen” with Angie Everhart, and the award-winning indie film “Amelia 2.0.”

Throughout her experiences, Malorie found a love for travel and adventure, having journeyed to over a dozen countries experiencing unique locations. From the lush jungles of the Sierra Madre mountain range to the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland, Malorie began adventuring and writing about her unique travels. These travel excerpts can be found on VIVA GLAM Magazine, in Malorie’s Adventure Blog, in Malorie’s adventure show: “Weird World Adventures” and in the works for her full-length travel book.

In 2022, Malorie was thrilled to become a member of the Explorer’s Club through her work on scientific travel. Her experiences volunteering on archaeological and anthropological expeditions as well as with animal conservation allowed her entry into the exclusive club. Since then, Malorie has focused more on scientific travel.
