When planning a trip, most people immediately plan to see the same, mainstream places. In other words, most people head to places packed with tourists. Of course, tourists destination, like the Eiffel Tower, are beautiful, cultural, and interesting. However, there are some people who like to see and visit unusual places. The good news is that there are many spots you can go to to experience the strange, unusual, and just plain weird places around the world. The more we talk about strange places, the more we see a huge market for it. So, what are some of the strangest places you can visit around the world?
1. Cancun Underwater Museum of Art (Mexico)
If you’re a fan of scuba-diving excursions, the Underwater Museum is a great place to visit. This tourist destination is located underneath the Caribbean Sea in Cancun. There, you will see around 500 sculptures that are meant to promote marine life colonization. So, for fans of underwater adventures, this museum should be on top of your list.
2. The Paper House (USA)
Located in Boston, Massachusetts, The Paper House is one of the strangest places you can visit around the world. As its name implies, this house is made with paper, including the furniture. This tourist destination is definitely a sight worth seeing. You’ll also appreciate the effort of Elis F. Stenman for taking the time to build this summer home, which is made of about 100,000 newspapers.
If you’re a fan of art, especially unique artistic expression as you’ve never seen it before, this place is most definitely for you.
3. The Spotted Lake (Canada)
Another strange place you can visit is the Spotted Lake in Canada which is located specifically in British Columbia. This lake contains high concentrations of minerals. As such, it is considered a sacred place by a lot of people. In fact, many people throughout history have used the water in this lake to treat various ailments, from battle wounds to body aches. Unfortunately, you will only be able to see the spots on this lake during the summer when the high temperature causes evaporation.
4. The Hair Museum (Turkey)
One of the strangest places you can visit around the world is The Hair Museum. This place is an underground establishment filled to the brim with human hair. The ceilings and walls of this establishment have locks of hair adorning them, donated by about 16,000 women. Because of the donations, the artist of The Hair Museum was so grateful that he awarded ten people an all-expense-paid trip to his native land to see his work of art. As far as unusual places go, this one is pretty out there. You definitely have to see it to believe!
5. The Catacombs of Paris (France)
Finally, the last place on this list is The Catacombs of Paris in France. Keep in mind that this tourist destination is not for the faint of heart because it contains about six million skeletons. Even so, the skeletons are not arranged in a gruesome way; thus, you can still enjoy the scenery of this place, especially if you’re attracted to strange places.
