The Turquoise Pools Of Pamukkale Will Take Your Breath Away

Turkey is a country like no other. It just has that special spark of magic to it. The locals are unbelievably genuine, warm, and welcoming. There is so much to see, from their rich history and culture to the breathtaking nature and stunning beaches. And don’t even get me started on the food — WOW! I love Turkish food. You don’t even have to pay a lot of money to eat something delicious here. Their street-food options are tastier than most of the things that you can eat in our fancy restaurants. And as special as this country is, there is just one place that stands out — and it’s called Pamukkale.

The Cotton Castle

Pamukkale, also known as the ‘Cotton Castle’, might be the most photogenic place on earth. So if you want to take some unforgettable pictures, this is the place to go! It just has something about it that will make you wonder — ‘How can this be real’?

But let’s start with the basics. Pamukkale is a natural site in southwestern Turkey, also known as the Denizli Province. Besides ‘Cotton Castle’, it’s also known as ‘White Paradise’, or Magical Hot Water Springs. The thing that gives this place its unique appearance is the carbonate minerals left by flowing water.

But Pamukkale is much more than a bunch of hot springs and minerals. It’s full of museums, ancient ruins, luxurious spas, and even Cleopatra’s pool. Because this region is located pretty far away from Turkey’s capital city, it could be easy to miss out on. But the transportation options between Istanbul and Pamukkale can’t be the reason why. The transportation options between these two cities are great. You can go by bus, plane, train, or even a guided tour.

What To Do In Pamukkale

The first one is pretty obvious — you have to take a dip in their hot pools! They are actually believed to have healing powers, and even Romans used Pamukkale as a spa spring center! There are many legends surrounding these waters claiming that they have healed people from all over the world. While this is an area I don’t know too much about, it is well-known that water can have healing properties. So why not take advantage of it while you’re there?

Now that you’re fully rested and recovered, it’s time to explore the city of Pamukkale. It’s just like most other Turkish cities, a mixture of old and new. You can see modern and luxurious hotels, but also ancient ruins and charming small souvenir shops.

One of the sites that you should not miss out on is the ancient Greek city of Hierapolis located above the pools. You will be mesmerized while walking through the ruins of this ancient city. Everything about it is just so impressive — the size, amphitheater, temples, and baths. It’s unknown when exactly this city was built, but it’s believed that it was some sort of Greek spa town. You can either hike to Hierapolis or take a taxi.
