The Unique Starbucks Locations to Discover Around the World

I am sure you know by now how much we love sharing the unusual and obscure here on MaloriesAdventures.com and on Weird World Adventures. If you’ve been following my show for a while, you probably also have noted just how much I love Starbucks. Enter the idea to feature the most eccentric Starbucks locations around the world. These Starbucks locations are one-of-a-kind, wonderful, and perhaps even just a bit weird (in the best possible way). Come with me on a journey as we uncover the unique Starbucks locations to discover around the world.

The United States

Since Starbucks was founded in the United States, we had to feature a couple of uniquely beautiful and bizarre Starbucks locations from the United States. For this article, we will be journeying to both Chicago, Illinois and New York City, New York.

Starbucks Reserve Chicago Roastery

The largest Starbucks in the world, the Starbucks Reserve Chicago Roastery, stands five-stories tall and takes up a total of 35,000 square feet. It shines as a tribute to Chicago’s art, culture, and architect as visitors explore all five floors of Instagram-worthy backdrops. One of its unique features is that it houses burlap bags of unroasted Starbucks Reserve beans that get roasted onsite here and piped to coffee bars located on each of the five levels. Naturally, this comes complete with a chic industrial design. Sitting in the center is the company’s tallest steel cask which is a whopping 56 feet tall. Despite being practical, it is also a beautiful piece of art, holding the beans as they de-gas after being roasted. The unique engineered design mixed with the spectacular art of this spot really needs to be seen to be believed, making it a a must-visit on our list of unique Starbucks locations around the world.

Starbucks Empire State Building

This large, 23,000-square-foot store showcases Starbucks’s history within New York City while also paying tribute to the Empire State Building. Filled with art-deco columns and art installations, this unique adult playground needs to be seen in person for you to truly soak it in. While it looks exceptional in photos, they simply don’t do it justice. It’s a Starbucks in what is arguably the most iconic building in the world… how could you not stop in for a cup of coffee while traversing Fifth Avenue?

Europe

Some of my favorite Starbucks locations were ones I discovered during my adventures in Europe. For instance, the Heidelberg Starbucks is really quite cute and special. But nothing could prepare me for getting to see these fairy-tale like locations. It’s truly easy to see why the below-mentioned European locations are on our list of unique Starbucks locations around the world.

Starbucks Boulevard des Capucines

Found at one of the most enviable locations in Paris, directly next to the famous Opera Garnier, the Starbucks Boulevard des Capucines will make you feel as if you sipping coffee within the walls of the famed opera house during the time of the Phantom of the Opera! This location was converted from a 17th-century courtyard and now features a steel glass roof to bathe its customers in fresh, bright sunlight. Complete with 19th-century ceiling murals, motifs, dark rich panels, and golden accents, this location will make you feel as if you are royalty. For the baroque lover, this is your Starbucks!

Starbucks Reserve Milan Roastery

Described as a “Roastery in the Round,” this Starbucks Roastery in Milan is the first one where customers can move all the way around the Scolari roaster to watch the coffee being roasted every step of the way. It features a 22-foot bronze roasting cask that rotates periodically, giving customers a unique glimpse into the de-grassing phase of coffee roasting. The design, itself, however, is likely why we have added this location to our list of unique Starbucks locations around the world. This Milan location shows Italian craftsmanship at its finest with accents of brick, marble, and twisting copper pipes and casks. Along with the steampunk feel; however, it also showcases a bright variety of colors. It’s truly exceptional!

Starbucks Prague Castle

I’m excited to say that I spent quite a bit of time at this next location: the Starbucks Prague Castle location. On top of being several stories tall, this Starbucks location also features a large open patio that provides gorgeous panoramic views of the entire city. After climbing up the intimidating steps to see Prague Castle, you can have a nice cup of coffee while picking out all the spectacular sights of old Prague.

Latin America

Hacienda Alsacia

Forget about a normal Starbucks location! This location in Hacienda Alsacia is a full coffee farm! Found on the slopes of the Poas volcano in Coasta Rica, this unbelievable location serves as a global research and development center for Starbucks. Visitors to this experience get to watch the full coffee journey from plant to cup firsthand. Come understand coffee like you never have before at this unique Starbucks location!

Asia Pacific

Finally, it was no surprise to me that the locations in Asia Pacific would have bright colors, chic modern layouts, and unbelievable designs. Let’s talk about these two locations that stand out as unique Starbucks locations on our list.

Coffee Experience Center at Starbucks Dewata Coffee Sanctuary

Just looking at the unique exterior of the Starbucks Dwata Coffee Sanctuary makes me want to visit it. Considered another “coffee experience”, this location in Bali was created to bring customers in to get to experience the full journey of coffee from seed to cup. It allows you to soak in the artistic backgrounds (and take some incredible Instagram photos) while also getting to understand coffee on a deeper level. Of course, you will also taste some delicious flavors while you are there, too.  

Starbucks Container Store

Finally, the Starbucks Container Store in Hualien City, Taiwan highlights Starbucks’s focus on sustainability by using recycled shipping containers to create its structure. These containers are strategically stacked like legos to provide a unique design and natural sunlight through its various skylights. At first glance, it looks like fine art; however, with a deeper look, I could easily see the structure of the shipping containers. What a fantastic idea!

The above are just a handful of unique Starbucks locations. And they serve to prove that every brand has weirdness wrapped around it, even a brand as commonly found as Starbucks.
