Top Holiday Activities for Water Sports Lovers
Activity holidays are becoming increasingly popular, with many people looking for a unique experience instead of just relaxing by the pool. It’s a great way to try your hand at something new or dedicate a chunk of time to enhancing your skills in one of your favorite hobbies. If you’re not sure what exactly to do on your escape but know you want to be on the water, then here are the top activities for water sports lovers to try on your next holiday.
Sailing
There’s nothing quite like the freedom you feel when you’re sailing on the open water. Whether you’ve got plenty of experience or you’re totally new to it, a sailing holiday is great for learning new skills and making the most of the glorious weather.
It’s even better if you’re out at sea with a fun group that can handle the vessel together!
Waterskiing
If you’re after something that will get the adrenaline pumping, waterskiing could be the way to go. You’ll get pulled along by boat and glide along the surface of the water at a minimum of 15 miles per hour.
The speed can increase as you gain confidence, and you could even start attempting tricks and jumps. This will be a huge test for your balance and core strength.
Scuba diving and snorkeling
The difference between these popular activities is the depth you can go to. Snorkeling is more focused on simply looking underwater, as you’re advised not to go much further than a few metres down.

With scuba diving, however, you can thoroughly explore the sea, swimming down to the coral and getting up close and personal with the marine life. The depth you can go to will depend on your age and training, with the maximum for a recreational diver being 130 feet.
Kayaking
Stick to the surface and enjoy a more relaxing experience by going kayaking. This activity is ideal on rivers and lakes, but sea kayaking also enables you to reach parts of the shore that are far more secluded.
It’s plenty of fun, can help improve your cardiovascular fitness, and it’s not too taxing on joints, meaning the whole family can do it together.
White-water rafting
At the other end of the scale is white-water rafting. Take on the rapids with the rest of the family or a group of friends for a truly exhilarating experience.
They’re usually priced fairly reasonably and often require travelling to more remote regions, so you’ll get all the mental health benefits of being out in nature.
What will you choose?
The above water sports options are by no means exhaustive – you could try windsurfing, wing foiling, paddleboarding, wakeboarding and so much more. If you’re by the water, there will be plenty of ways to keep yourself entertained during your holiday.
