Tulip Season: Why You Should Visit The Netherlands In The Spring

The Netherlands have always held a special place in my heart. This country just has a certain type of charm that is difficult to find elsewhere. Typically, Dutch people are incredibly easy-going and open-minded, and they love to mind their own business. Whenever I’m there, I just feel like I suddenly know what my main priorities in life are. Living is easy, slow, and oh-so-sweet. If you still haven’t had the chance to visit this charming European country, then the number one tip that I can give you is to visit it during the ‘Tulip Season’.

You probably already know that the Netherlands is known for its beautiful tulips. The long spring season and chilly nights make this country the perfect place to grow tulips. And you will be able to see them everywhere. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll be mesmerized by the beauty of the Netherlands no matter when you decide to visit it. But there is an added spark of magic during the spring months.

Tulip Season

So when exactly is the tulip season? As you can probably guess, it’s during the spring season. And as I have already alluded to, spring lasts a little bit longer in the Netherlands. It runs from the end of March to mid-May, but the tulip fields are at their peak towards the end of April. And it isn’t hard to find tulip fields either. Trust me, you will be able to find them almost all throughout the Netherlands. Just imagine the stunning Instagram-worthy pictures that you will be able to take.

How To Find Tulip Fields?

As I already said, it isn’t too hard to find a field of tulips in the Netherlands during the tulip season. But there are some areas in this country that are more known for it.

Most of the fields are located in the province of Flevoland. You will also find breathtaking fields along the coast of The Hague and in Alkmaar. If you’re visiting Amsterdam, you’ll have the chance to visit the world’s largest flower museum, the Keukenhof, which is just 30 minutes away from the capital of the Netherlands.

What Else Is There To See During The Tulip Season?

Tulips are gorgeous, but I don’t think that visiting a field of tulips would be reason enough to travel to a foreign country. However, there are plenty of other things to do here in the spring.

First of all, this is the IDEAL time to cycle around the Netherlands. The weather is just perfect, and trust me when I say that Dutch people love their bicycles. For most people, this is their main way of getting around the city. You will have the chance to take slow bike rides, and just enjoy the magic around you. No, you won’t have to take your own bicycle, as it will be incredibly easy to find bike rentals.

You might be wondering what’s more Dutch than biking around Holland and visiting tulip fields. The answer is easy — going to see the windmills. Once again, spring is the ideal time to do this. There will be windmills anywhere you go. But the best place to pull a Don Quixote is Kinderdijk. This is a village in the province of South Holland, just 9 miles away from Rotterdam.
