Create a Worldly Interior Starting from the Floor Up

If your heart belongs to far-off places and your home is your canvas, then your interior should reflect the beauty, texture, and culture of the world around you. Whether it’s the warmth of a Tuscan kitchen, the understated elegance of a Scandinavian flat, or the vibrant energy of a Moroccan riad, you can capture global influences in your décor—and it all starts from the floor up.

Flooring lays the foundation for every room in your home. It’s what ties your furniture together, anchors your colour scheme, and sets the tone for the rest of the space. Choosing a style that tells a story and reflects your love for travel or culture can be the first step to creating a home that feels like a passport to your favourite places.

Build a Base with Texture and Tone

When designing a globally inspired space, think first about the mood you want to create. If you’re drawn to rich, grounded interiors that echo old-world charm, solid wood flooring is the perfect choice. It brings an authentic, organic feel that suits rustic Mediterranean kitchens, moody Parisian salons, or classic English countryside homes.

Each plank of solid wood carries its own character—from natural knots to subtle grain shifts—making your floor feel unique and storied. It pairs beautifully with antiques, woven rugs, and earthy tones, ideal for homes that celebrate tradition and craftsmanship.

Embrace Elegance with Pattern

For something a little more refined, consider bringing in pattern through your floor. Parquet flooring has a long history in European interiors, particularly in French and Italian architecture. Its geometric design—especially in styles like herringbone or chevron—adds elegance and sophistication while still being grounded in tradition.

A living room with parquet underfoot feels instantly elevated. Add in velvet textures, deep blues or jewel tones, and gold accents, and you’ve recreated the drama and beauty of a historic Venetian apartment. Even in smaller spaces, parquet creates visual interest and gives your floor a designer finish.

Mix Cultures with Contemporary Practicality

If your home sees plenty of foot traffic, or you’re looking for a practical option for kitchens, bathrooms, or even open-plan areas, LVT flooring offers a world of design flexibility. It mimics the look of natural materials—wood, stone, or even tile—while offering durability, water resistance, and easy maintenance.

For example, you could choose LVT that resembles weathered wood for a coastal-inspired space, complete with light linens and driftwood accents. Or go for a tile-look LVT that brings a hint of Moroccan flair—think bold patterns, layered textures, and pops of colour.

What makes LVT particularly exciting is the freedom it offers for mixing styles without worrying about damage from spills, shoes, or pets. You get the look you want for your interior, from anywhere in the world, with the practical performance of modern technology.

Tie It All Together with Meaning

Once your floor is chosen, it’s time to layer in the décor. Blend textiles, prints, and objects collected from your travels or inspired by the cultures you love. Don’t worry about matching everything perfectly—global style is all about mixing textures, colours, and periods to create something personal and eclectic.

A Turkish rug atop oak parquet, rattan accents on LVT flooring, or vintage suitcases paired with solid wood—these combinations bring your interior to life and reflect the richness of a life well-travelled.

Final Thoughts

Creating a worldly interior doesn’t require a passport—just a thoughtful start from the floor up. Whether it’s the natural beauty of solid wood flooring, the classic design of parquet flooring, or the versatility of LVT flooring, your home can reflect the destinations that inspire you.
