Becoming More Comfortable with Total Wellness
It seems like a strange thing to do, right off the bat, to title an article that implies that we aren’t fully comfortable with our total wellness. But I’ve found that we humans are particularly strange creatures who don’t always easily accept what might be best for us, for one reason or another. When I talk about total wellness, I’m talking about a nice balance of all facets of our health that result in us feeling our best in every way. A state of total wellness is what we should aspire for at all times in our lives, living in our healthiest state, but sometimes it takes a bit of a journey into the uncomfortable to get there. For instance, we must accept our insecurities and mental health quirks in order to get to total wellness, just like we have to accept our sexual health in its fullest to arrive at total wellness, too. With the right balance of mental, physical, sexual, and emotional health, we can become the best versions of ourselves. But how can we become more comfortable with our total wellness? Let’s start by discussing the facets of health here below.
Mental Health
It may seem like mental health is commonly talked about in today’s world, but it was so regularly neglected for decades that it deserves its place in the sun. Arriving at a healthy mental state doesn’t mean that you have a perfect mind. No one does. Instead, it means accepting and/or working on any quirks that you may have. A great way to work towards your optimal mental health is to see a therapist and discuss your inner thoughts and feelings. Even if you don’t always feel you need this, expressing the thoughts found deep in your mind to someone who isn’t a part of your life is therapeutic on so many levels even if nothing in particular is bothering you. Sometimes, an overview of free online therapy can be a good starting point for those seeking support. Finding the little quirks you may have and embracing them, becoming proud of yourself, and accepting who you are is the perfect way to accept your mental health and work towards your total wellness.
Physical Health
I won’t speak too much on the topic of physical health, as this topic is pretty self-explanatory. But ensuring that you are eating on the healthier side, regularly getting your checkups, and pinpointing any physical ailments you may have is, of course, always important to your total health and wellness. Your physical health is easier to pinpoint and combat most of the time, as it’s clear to us when we feel pain, and the discomfort motivates us to fix the problem usually sooner rather than later.
Sexual Health
It may seem taboo to bring up sexual health as an important facet of our total wellness, but being sexually comfortable with ourselves and ensuring that we are sexually satisfied can really contribute tremendously towards our overall total wellness. I will admit, this topic is relatively new to me, as I was brought up in a family that suppressed any sexual topics, and it wasn’t until I felt fully and completely comfortable with my new partner (while in my 30s!) that I realized just how important your sexual wellness can be towards your overall happiness and well-being. And I’m working to get over my fear of talking about sex and instead, embracing that pleasure is an absolutely appropriate way to release tension and put you in a happier and healthier place. A recent study reported in Medical News Today found that regular masturbation releases hormones and neurotransmitters that decrease stress and blood pressure and promote relaxation, making it easier to fall asleep. So, being comfortable sexually with your partner and yourself can truly help to put you in a better headspace. Better sexual health means better wellness overall.

Emotional Health
When we talk about emotional health, we discuss how we cope, acknowledge, and process our emotions. It, of course, doesn’t mean being happy always, rather that we are comfortable in our emotions and know how to process them in a seamless way. One of the activities that has best help me process my emotions and work towards optimal emotional health is meditation. Whenever I feel my worst emotions, I find that regular meditation helps me to understand them, process them, and work through them. Getting into a regular meditation routine can, in my opinion, tremendously help in making great strides towards emotional health.
Total Wellness
Being comfortable in our bodies in every facet of our health can allow us to achieve total wellness, a state of being healthy across the board in all facets of our lives. When one area is super out of whack, the others seem to get knocked off balance, as if we exist on a teetering scale. So, finding a good balance of overall health through regular meditation, therapy, masturbation, sleep, and eating well, can truly allow us to be the best versions of ourselves that we can be. It can help to get us as close as we can get to a state of total wellness.
