The Art of Setting Powerful Meditation Intentions
While sometimes all you may need is a nice, relaxing meditation to set you down the right path for the day, nothing beats a meditation exercise with a clear, powerfully set intention. I’ve found that in my experiences, setting intentions is one of the most integral parts of any meditation exercise. You see, when you have a goal to work toward, and it can be extremely light, such as ‘to gain insights,’ it can make the world of difference in how your exercise is perceived. So, I thought it would be a great idea to talk about setting intentions and how to find the right intention for your meditation at any given time.
First of all, there are a variety of wonderful intentions you can set for yourself. As mentioned above, they can be incredibly specific or quite broad, and either is fine. For instance, let’s say you’d like to heal yourself. If you’re just feeling a bit crummy overall, setting the intention, “I’d like to heal myself” is a great way to broadly scan yourself in an exercise and heal wherever you feel needs it. That kind of loose intention allows you more freedom to play around and see where your journey may take you. However, say you want a more specific task, such as, “My head has been hurting for days, I’d like to heal it,” that is a much more focused and different exercise. It all depends on what you need in the moment.
So, the first step in setting the right intention for your meditation exercise is to ask yourself, “What do I need right now?” Go with your gut, and don’t allow any room for judgment. If you immediately thought of something right now, that’s your intention! Don’t allow yourself to second guess it. However, if you’re still not sure, here are some ideas that could help spark your interest.
I mentioned healing above. That is a great option, whether specifically just looking to heal yourself generically, mentally, physically or addressing a specific ailment. Manifestation is another great intention to set for yourself. It can be as simple as, “I want to invite into my life whatever I need right now in abundance” or as specific as a very detailed, “I will achieve this specific goal that I’ve been working toward.” Manifestation is one of my favorite intentions, as it helps me to set clear goals for myself. Perhaps, you’d like to start your day meditating on your daily goals and seeing yourself accomplish them in a clear and timely manner. Looking for guidance in the form of general guidance or specific answers to a detailed question are also great intentions for your meditation. If you’re feeling a bit lost, perhaps a broad intention of connection to your inner wisdom is right for you?
Common Meditation Intentions:
For Healing:
- “I allow healing energy to flow where it’s needed most”
- “I release tension and embrace peace in my body”
- “I heal old wounds and welcome wholeness”
For Clarity:
- “I seek guidance on my path forward”
- “I open to insights about my current situation”
- “I connect with my inner wisdom”
For Manifestation:
- “I align with my highest good and greatest potential”
- “I visualize and embody my desired outcome”
- “I attract what serves my soul’s purpose”
For Peace:
- “I release what no longer serves me”
- “I cultivate inner calm and presence”
- “I find peace within chaos”
For Connection:
- “I deepen my connection to my true self”
- “I open my heart to love and compassion”
- “I feel my connection to all life”

You’re the only person who can set the right intention for yourself, and it’s all completely based on your needs. So, be sure to ask yourself prior to your next meditation, “What do I need right now” and work from there. Choose a broad intention if you’d like to play around and flow freely or pick something more specific if you have something on your mind that you need addressed or answered. The best part about your meditation exercises is that they are YOURS! The sky is the limit—you can set yourself up for success by picking the right intention for your meditation exercise.
My last piece of advice is, once you’ve done your exercise, let it go. You may not have gotten an answer, or at least not the one you were looking for, but it could very well come to you later. So always stay positive and be ready to receive that which you’ve asked for after completing your exercise, whether it takes a day to come to you or a week. Good luck setting your intentions!
